No, UAM (Udyog Aadhaar Memorandum) and MSME (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises) are not the same, but they are related. MSME is a classification of businesses in India based on their size and investment in plant and machinery or equipment. As of June 2021, the Government of India has revised the classification of MSMEs based on their turnover, which has been effective since July 1, 2020. As per the revised classification, micro-enterprises are defined as businesses with a turnover of up to INR 50 million, small enterprises as businesses with a turnover of up to INR 250 million, and medium enterprises as businesses with a turnover of up to INR 1 billion. UAM, on the other hand, is a one-page online registration form used by MSMEs to register themselves with the Ministry of MSME. UAM registration is voluntary, but it provides various benefits to the registered MSMEs such as easier access to credit, subsidies, and government schemes. So, while MSME is a classification of businesses based on size and turnover, UAM is an online registration form used by MSMEs to register themselves with the Ministry of MSME.
